Laptop Crash and Data Recovery - NOT!

I’ve just recovered from a major computer crash. The Toshiba laptop froze last Thursday, or was it Wednesday? Anyway, last week sometime it froze and I made the fatal mistake of turning it off before the issue resolved itself. When I switched back on the whole system was painfully slow.

I inserted the product recovery CD to try to discover if there was a way to repair whatever files had been damaged. It seems though I hit one ‘next’ button to far and there was no turning back. The C-Drive was wiped along with at least 4 months of work.

I’ve been online since 1998 - You’d think I would know better, right? You know what? If I’ve learned anything from this fiasco it is to BACKUP my data and emails more often.

I say this because I hadn’t done a backup in a few months - although I bought software to try to recover as much as possible - I was unable to recover most of my data and lost a couple months worth of emails.

This is NOT the first time I have had a major crash either. I had a virus attack a couple of years ago too which caused me BIG problems. Maybe I’ll learn THIS time!

By the way, I would NOT recommend buying anyhing from Unistal. It has been a nightmare trying to get my software activated after buying from them on friday. Of course, it was easy enough buying the bloody things but I soon found out after purchase that I had to wait on an activation from them for their email recovery software. This should be an automatic procedure. IT WAS NOT in this case. The activation email was meant to arrive within 36 hours. I’m still waiting, in spite of sending at least 3 emails to their support team.

Another thing which is laughable - Unistal’s “Windows Data Recovery Software” requires internet access to activate the product. ON A CRASHED %$^£*£*£$%” MACHINE???? How is this possible? You CAN activate the software manually but this process includes, a phone call to support - sending an email - getting an email back - attaching a file with the software info - returning the email and finally getting the activation code sent back. Oh and one other thing - If you don’t have another system from which to send your email then God knows how you’re going to accomplish this.

Are they aware at how FRUSTRATING this is for customers who have just had a crash? I am fairly adept at getting things working online and on the P.C. I dread to think what it must be like for a relative newcomer.

Ok, now that I’ve got that out of my system - It is very important that you backup your system regularly. I’m running a business, I shouldn’t need to tell myself that and neither should you if you’re serious about owning an internet marketing business.

Have a great day!
