How to Deal with Nasty Unsubscribers?
How to Deal with Nasty Unsubscribers?
This is an easy one, ignore them and make sure to remove them from all your email lists. Next please!
The last thing you want to do when faced with an irate email from one of your subscribers, who has likely forgotten they ever subscribed to your list, is to hit them back with an abusive or sarcastic response.
Try not to take it too personally. It’s likely that you just caught your reader at a bad time. They’ve had an argument with their spouse, have just sat down to grab some net time in order to keep their heads down, and here’s some a*****e internet marketer trying to sell them a $10 ebook
On my part it is impossible that someone could end up on my list unless they intended to be there. My subscription process is quite transparent where subscribers must verify via an optin verification email that they indeed wanted to signup.
So when I get such email - and they come fairly regularly - I’m quite confident that the subscriber simply forgot that they’d subscribed. It doesn’t help matter if you do not keep in frequent contact with your readers either
On other occasions you may get an angry email because they didn’t like what you had to offer. Again, rather than get into a debate I would rather just move on. If you have something to learn from their comments then by all means do so. Make the neccessary changes to your marketing followups if necessary but the damage is done as far as I’m concerned with this lost prospect.
When dealing with customers, which isn’t really a problem for me as I mostly sell affiliated products, it’s a completely different scenario. You may be able to retain a customer by offering a refund or rebate. So in this instance you may do well to get in touch to see what can be done.
Nasty unsubscribers are just a fact of life in doing business online. Don’t let it put you off. People can be sometimes even more abusive with the anonymity from hiding behind a P.C than they are face to face. Hard to believe but true.
In the meantime, keep sending those frequent followups and enjoy the sales that come from them
